Residents of Maktau in Taita Taveta were on Saturday treated to a rare plane showcase event as the county marked 101 years since the first powered plane flew in East and Central Africa.
The first plane flew on August 8, 1915, when a British-assembled aircraft took off in Maktau;Taita Taveta County.
It’s the flying of aircrafts by the British military that fueled the First World War big crashes between the British and Germany troops in Salaita, Mwashoti and Maktau areas.
The battlefields have since then been marked as tourism hotsports.
