CWG Non-Commemoration Project Update

Updated: Feb 10, 2022

Investigating potential WW1 grave sites in Taita Taveta County. These ones turned out to be older than 1914 and probably belong to the Galla People.

On the 21st of January the Commonwealth War Graves released their 'Non-Commemoration Project Update' explaining some of the incredible work that their team of researchers are doing.

In November and December last year Guerrillas of Tsavo we able to spend a fascinating few days with CWG researchers Patrick and Jeffery sharing information and investigating some leads both in Taita Taveta and Kwale Counties.

Joining the Elephants for a water break.

The very interesting update looks at the project successes and challenges so far:

The three largest issues uncovered by our earlier research were the limited understanding of casualty numbers, the whereabouts of missing burials and, of course, the existence of missing names from our sites and records...
...We know we may never recover all of their names, but every one we do find is a wrong righted and a man remembered...

Perhaps one day we can have a National Wall of Remembrance in Taita Taveta with all the names of the Heroes of the East African Campaign who have no known resting place.
