Indian Army Day 2021 commemorated at the Taita Taveta Memorials

The Indian Delegation with Kenya Defence Force Honour Guard at the CWG Maktau Indian Cemetery

Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.

This year the Indian High Commission in Kenya held their annual commemoration in Taita Taveta County led by High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul and accompanied by Brig. Submit Mehta of the Indian Army, Defence Advisor Capt. Nitesh Garg (IN) and many India diaspora leaders resident in Kenya.

The Kenya Defence Forces led by Col R.K. Kitur attended the weekend. Major Ambuka was present with his immaculate Honour Guard from 15 Kenya Rifles - Mariakani Barracks.

Unveiling for the Indian Memorial in the Garden of Remembrance at Taita Hills Safari Resort

High Commissioner Dr. Virander Paul was joined by the Taita Taveta Deputy Governor Hon. Ms. Majala Mlagui at the unveiling of the newest Commemorative pillar in the Gardens at Taita Hills Safari Resort. This pillar and plaque is to the:

"honoured memory of the soldiers of the Indian Army who fell while serving with the Indian Expeditionary Force B and C in East Africa during the World War 1".
